Work this week.

This week in literacy I have been writing a speech about mental health awareness. With this speech it is my goal to persuasive people into talking more action around mental health. Luckily Sharon has taught us how to make our pieces of writing persuasive like adding facts and statistics to our writing, This speech will probably be done by next week.

That was my literacy work this week.

Persuasive Writing.

Reasons why more people should adopt cats. (Pros/Cons & Emotive language) .

Here is why you should get a cat.

Firstly cats are emotional support animals which is amazing.

Secondly 480M out of 700M cats are strays and that’s more than half of the cats population. Plus you have an opportunity to help an abused or tortured cat get into their forever home.

Another reason why you should get a cat is because cats are independent and you don’t have to walk them and pick up their feces etc. But overall even though they cost money cats can make you feel less lonely and more happy.

How to Put up a tent.

How to put up a tent:

By Emma & George.

Find a dry spot for your tent to be put up.

Lay the tent out on the ground.

Then grab 4 pegs and get the 4 corners of the tent and hammer them down.

Now connect the poles together.

Match the poles to the tent and attach the tent to the poles using the clip.

Then put the rain fly over the tent and peg them down with 4 pegs.

If it is a windy day grab your guide ropes.

And peg them down using the side holes on your tent.

Time’s tables.

Today I did 100 times table test. I got 95%. I did this in 10 minutes

My goal is Speed. I need to learn 8 x 6 =48.

Spencer Park Camp 2024.

Next week the class of Tangaroa is going to Spencer park for a night.

This year we don’t have a Vehicle to transport us to Spencer park, we ether have to walk or bike to the camp site; this year I have decided to walk the 2 hour walk to Spencer Park and my goal is to show Resilience by not giving up when I want to stop and lay on the ground.

My goal for showing integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking; for example: When doing Beach science or when I’m in my tent or cooking my meal.

I’m going to show success by hopefully putting my tent up, and helping my group successfully cook dinner.

This camp my goal for showing empathy is if someone is struggling with putting up there text I will help them, also if there struggling on the walk to the camp site also helping them by encouraging them and helping them if they need help.

2023 Reflcection.

At the start of the year I was scared to move into a new class with new people and new responsibilities, but that has changed. Let’s look and see why!

Term 1.

When the end of 2022 was near I started to feel anxious and uncomfortable about moving into a new class, but nevertheless it happened anyway. At the start of term 1 we got ready for learning

Like getting into math groups, literacy etc. I also made a lot of good friends as soon as I joined the classroom! We learned about our school goal this year, kaitiakitanga and taking care of the school, and started to go to technology every Thursday  ( Robotics ) .

Term 2.

We started the term with the same stuff as term 1. We started getting back into literacy and math groups ( Which I was doing ok in ) . We switched technology groups to wood works and started to make box’s. We did financial literacy and hero work and I started choir with my

friends. We started to do winter sports. I chose to do football for a change and I really enjoyed it.

Term 3.

We started term 3 where we left off from term 2. All of us went straight back into learning, I was kind of bad in literacy but doing really well in math. In August we went on a ski trip to Mt Hutt. I was in the beginner group but overall it was really fun. Winter sports was starting to end but we had the option to sign up for koru games, basically like winter sports, but where you score and try to win a competition, are football team didn’t win but we all had a good time, In the middle of term 3 we started inquiry with Talei and made non chemicals cleaning products I made a spray and wipe with my best friend Emma L named Gemma & Co. we at the end of the team I started to host football for C&C with Mason D, Izak and Rocky, I made some really good friends and I was in a good place.

Term 4.

This term we have started to slow down on a lot of things, there weren’t really any sports activities, but we did do a big choir performance and we went to camp at Camp Kakariki.

As we are finishing things up, I am getting sad and happy, all my year 8 friends will be leaving for high school, but overall I’m happy that this year is almost over.

My next year’s goal is to always get my work done ( Since that’s something I have struggled with ) . Being nice to everyone. ( Even if those people aren’t nice to me ) .

But most importantly I’m thankful for all of the staff and teachers that have helped me and the rest of the class. 🙂

The Cure.

This is what I did for inquiry today.

here is what I have written.

The Cure.

Marcus was a successful man who had been working at the biggest research lab: The National Institute of health. He had been trying to discover the cure for cancer ever since his wife got cancer, he had been working day and night on trying to get a cure but had no luck.

“Marcus? MARCUS!”

“What Plumothy…”

“You can’t keep sleeping in your office. I know you’re trying hard to discover the cancer cure but we need you to help Jack, you are his assistant. Replied Mr Plumothy.

“Just go away, Plumothy.” said Marcus

“I have had ENOUGH honestly GET up or you’re fired.” Yelled Plumothy

Marcus had a shocked expression on face.

“Alright- Alright.”

Marcus went to Jack and helped him do some paperwork.

He was unsatisfied with how he got treated and sneaked back into the main laboratory, and worked the hardest he ever had to find a cure, he had nearly got it but then he heard footsteps from a far, will he be found…

Top Team 2023.

This year the Yr 5 – 7  were competing in Top team, if you don’t know what top team is, it is when kids from different age groups get put together into teams and compete against others with puzzle and mini games.

Together in groups we did 9 challenges.

I was with Anika, Ruby, D’lonte, and Emile and Eve and 2 others.

The final score was 277, but we didn’t win but it was still a fun experience.

The rise values we showed were: Resilience when we were on  these connect shoes and we had to walk at the same time we almost gave up but we  didn’t and gave it are best. We showed Integrity when doing the right thing when the teachers weren’t looking.

2023 Koru Games.

For the last 3 days I have been participating in the Koru Games boys’ football team, it’s been an interesting experience since it was my first time doing Koru games.  At first, all of the teams went to the opening ceremony. After some talking the games began and our team went to Prebbleton.

The first day was kind of like winter sports, as soon as we got there we got our gear on and started our first game. Here are the scores of the games on the first day. We had four 30-minute games. We tied 1, lost 2 and won 1. On the second day, we had 5 games, lost 4 and won 1. On the last day we had 3 games, tied 1 and lost 2. I feel I was successful because even though we didn’t win all our games, we tried our best and supported each other. Koru games has been an amazing experience, I’ll never forget it.
